In the middle of May, I traveled from Mexico to Rome where I would meet up with my mom to travel around Italy. Yet, there were a few bumps along the road.
The Journey
What a NIGHTMARE. After I arrived in LAX from Mexico, my mom contacted me via a strangers phone to inform me she had lost her phone in the airport. I ran around the entire terminal looking for it, finally finding it at the Starbucks. However, this made all further communications with my mom nearly impossible. Then, my 10:30pm flight from LAX to Rome was delayed 4 hours and finally cancelled due to engine issues (yikes, I know). I was now stuck two hours away from home, had no form of communication with my mom, and nowhere to sleep. Luckily, there were three very nice young women on the cancelled flight who let me crash on their couch for the night. I ended up booking a 9:30am flight the next day and promptly made it to Rome. Sadly, this cut down my time in Rome to only a day. However, I managed to make the most of my time and still had an incredible experience.
Rome
I literally had ONE day in Rome, thanks to the traveling nightmare. My mom and I ran around, hitting all the major sites we wanted to see, including the Colosseum, Pantheon, Spanish Steps, and Trevi Fountain. I drank more coffee than I thought humanly possible to fight off the jet lag, and boy was it worth it. We had the best time, most amazing food, and ended up getting yelled at by the Italian police for eating food on the Spanish Steps (don't do it!). Although hectic, I fell in love with the historic city and I can not wait to go back again in the future.
Quando a Roma, fai come i Romani!
(when in Rome, do as the Romans do)
